Our paper on effects of Ocean Acidification on Seagrass and trophic interactions has now been published in Global Change Biology!
You can find the paper at the link below (or email me if you would like a pdf and do not have access to it)
After a busy summer with many fieldwork activities……..
- Welcoming (Robert) Sean Fitzpatrick to our lab!! He is a fulbight scholar that will be working on the effects of OA and warming on seagrass and invasive algae interactions.
- We’ve been in Ibiza and Formentera doing outreach on invasive species. Check our webpage ojoinvasoras.info
Our paper on tropicalization of temperate reefs (Vergés et al. 2014 Proceedings of the Royal Society B) has been recommended of Faculty of the 1000 Prime!
Paper on the effects of warming on invasive seaweed accepted in Marine Pollution Bulletin!
We are launching a new outreach project on invasive species!

Our paper on tropical rabbitfish in the Mediterranean has been selected as the editor’s choice for the November issue in Journal of Ecology
It has been a really fun and busy summer sampling with the wonderful ZEN team in Coos Bay and Yaquina Bay and with my great colleagues and students from IMEDEA in the natural CO2 vents of Ischia (Italy).
Our student Alberto Gándara just defended his Master’s thesis. Congratulations!
Also, two papers have been published in the last month or so on the extent, impact and mechanisms of tropical fish reducing temperate algal forests to barrens.

Happy new year!
I am excited to say that I have been accepted to participate on the 2014 Ocean Acidification Communication Workshop organized by COMPASS, that will take place in Oahu on February 20 to 22.
This workshop brings together a diverse groups of people across career stages, scientific expertise, institutions and communication experience to discuss and learn about Ocean Acidification Science and Science Communication.
My talk on effects of OA on seagrass herbivory has been accepted for an oral presentation at the 2014 Ocean Sciences Meeting, which will be held in Hawaii this coming February. It wil be part of the Session on “Ocean Acidification in Coastal Environments”
For more details on the conference and the OA session check out the following links:
Welcome our new master students!
Laura, Alberto and Magda will be pursuing a MSc in Marine Ecology at the Universitat de les Illes Balears (http://postgrau.uib.cat/en/master/MECO/?languageId=1) and will be conducting their research projects with us.
